LargeUp Premiere: Beenie Man’s “Rock the World” Video

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Beenie Man takes an Audi ride into space in his trippy new video for “Rock the World,” on Portmore-based production team Brukkout‘s Sewage Breath riddim. But, as with so many dancehall videos, it’s the dancers who take things to the cosmos. Beenie’s co-stars in “Rock the World,” Sweden’s Blackout Twinz, have been making noise in Jamaica since becoming their home country’s dancehall queens a few years back, and they show us why with a charismatic performance to match that of the always-lively Beenie. Also making turns in “Rock the World,” directed by Stephen K. Schuster and Weird Days (a Brooklyn director team known for their work with Das Racist and indie band Real Estate, among others) are one of Beenie’s sons, and a bottle of Yaad Swag, his newly launched rum.

Now Hear This!: Download Ninjaman x Kiprich, “Don Gorgon is Back”

Words and Artwork by Herbert Spliffington

In a move that initially inspired disbelief, late last month Ninjaman was granted bail from the Horizon Remand Centre after spending three years in jail since turning himself in to police as a ‘person of interest’ in a murder case on Mall Road in Kingston. Ninja really is out pon bail, having already cut numerous dubplates and linked with Kiprich at Big Yard studios for his first official single since being released. Cut on the Gun Inna Baggy riddim for Kiprich’s Nuh Behavior label, “Don Gorgon Is Back” sees Ninjaman give Kiprich the blessing as his musical son before lyrically explaining how to survive in a Jamaican jail. Kippy meanwhile welcomes him back in fine style, trading verses with Ninja and handling the hook.”DON DEH A ROAD NOW!”

Words by Jesse Serwer—

So there’s been some rumors swirling around the last few weeks about a sex tape involving some high-profile dancehall artists. Last evening some of the named parties—ahem, Mr. Lexx, ahem, Lady Saw—took to the always raw Tambareen Radio show Outa Orda! show to address the rumors and…whoops, turns out the Sexxx Tape is actually a slack riddim from the always on-point Truckback Records production team.
