There’s a lot of dancehall artists chatting bere slackness right now, and perhaps just as many cultural artists chanting them down. But the rebuke feels that much sharper and more needed coming from a ten-year-old. Mini-boss deejay Wayne J made it onto our 2014 Artists to Watch list earlier this year, following impressive performances at Sting (alongside Super Cat) and Rebel Salute (alongside Queen Ifrica), and now he’s using his position as dancehall’s youngest in charge to take his older peers to task for misleading the youth.
The video for “Slacky Mouth” depicts a bandana-faced, obscene-gesturing deejay performing for an audience of children who are ultimately led in the proper direction after Wayne puts his lyrical two cents in (“When mi hear dem song mi seh dis nuh real, dem mouth want jails and Listerine).” Watch below, and tell us what you think.
