From the earliest days of his career, Shaggy has been a dynamic performer. Credit his dual upbringing in Jamaica and Brooklyn during the ’70s and ’80s, and his experience in the United States Marine Corps during Operation Desert Storm— places where half stepping was not an option. In celebration of the deejay’s 47th birthday today, we’ve gathered some clips of Shaggy’s early days: A street party on Brooklyn’s Macon Street in 1992, his first appearance on the BBC’s Top of he Pops right after “Oh Carolina” broke, an early interview on British talk show The Word, and a clip from Sting in 1994, one of his earliest stage show appearances in Jamaica.
