Words by Jesse Serwer—

Just one week after the underwhelming “Here Comes the King,” the guy now calling himself Snoop Lion has unleashed the most interesting track thus far from his Reincarnated project. And he’s brought some notable guests from the dancehall world to “Lighters Up,” namely the Gully Gad Mavado, and Popcaan. Though unbilled, Jahdan Blakkamoore (who co-wrote “Lighters”) also lends his vocals to the track.
Once again, Snoop seems to figure into the tune in a fashion more fitting of a supporting player, while the production—a hip-hop beat with a marching band bounce vaguely reminiscent of Trick Daddy’s “Shut Up” that’s co-produced by Major Lazer and Dre Skull—outshines everything. Listen below, and judge for yourself:

Men
Snoop is lyrically sub-potent
Everything has swagger except him so far.

Pure f**kery, mi ah seh. Let’s be real here: Mavado has some of the most violent lyrics in all of dancehall-now he wants to chat ’bout unity & upful livity, Popcaan sucks, and Snoop, well, big up for the transformation, but thumbs down for that nonsense accent. Mavado would be awesome if he would go ahead and rep Jah Jah to the fullest and dun wit’ di slackness and guntalk!!!!
