The pulsating bass on U.K. producer Wrongtom’s “Possession” thumps you down from the get-go. “Possession” has a retro, late-80s dancehall vibe to it, and how about that trumpet solo, mid-flow?! The track is featured on Wrongtom’s upcoming EP, Possessed, (out Aug. 21 on the Tru Thoughts label), which also features other artists including Tippa Irie and the Ragga Twins on the same riddim track.

Having worked with some of pop and R&B’s most promising artists, his collaboration with fellow Londoner JC Lodge makes sense; far from just a reggae act, she has achieved notable success across all of the above genres and her voice matches virtually any rhythmic style and pattern. JC’s 1980 rendition of country classic “Someone Loves You Honey” became a worldwide hit, while 1988’s “Telephone Love” was one of the first dancehall tracks to break into the Stateside R&B/Hip Hop scene. This is the first time we’ve heard her voice in a while but she hasn’t lost her touch; her vocals make “Possession” an enchanting listen from the moment play is pressed.
