South by Southwest starts next week, and we’re thrilled to be producing our first event at the annual conference in Austin, Texas this year. In collaboration with the House of Marley, we’re presenting a day party featuring Screechy Dan and Los Rakas live, alongside DJs from Rice & Peas (New York) and The Heatwave (UK), Mixpak‘s Jubilee, and Deejay Theory (of Mixtape Monday fame).

Max Glazer (of Federation Sound), LargeUp’s own DJ Gravy, Mountain Doo, and Miss Likkle Bit will be repping for Rice & Peas, the crew famed for their Monday-night NYC monthly. You may recognize The Heatwave from their many Mixtape Monday appearances as well as their UK dancehall-centric column for LargeUp, Cockney & Yardie.

From Kingston via Brooklyn, Screechy Dan may be most known for his 1993 single “Pose Off” with Red Fox, but we think Austin will actually be a great fit for the dancehall singer/DJ. A longtime country fan, Screechy has developed a unique adaptation of yodeling (he cites Hank Williams as one of his influences) for dancehall — he even covered Williams’s classic “Long Gone Lonesome Blues.” Check out him yodeling live here — maybe he’ll even have a new country tune prepared for his visit to the Lone Star State.

The party will be held outside at the lovely Empire Patio – it should be a chill afternoon of sun, good vibes, and most importantly good music. Sound like fun? RSVP here, and we’ll see you in Austin!
