One of the more overlooked aspects of the Major Lazer conversation is the Diplo-led crew’s ability to pull together some really unlikely pairings and collaborations. “Scare Me” is not one of our favorite tracks from their recent Free the Universe album, but it gets a forward from us simply for bringing together dirty-talk queens Peaches (of “Fuck the Pain Away” fame) and LargeUp favorite and former Badda Badda Gal, Timberlee. The pairing makes too much sense, but who else could pull it off (or even think of it)?

It’s not the musical collaboration that’s the attention grabber in the video for “Scare Me,” though. After years as a Limonius-meets-DC-Comics cartoon character, “Major Lazer”—as in the group’s titular mascot—has finally taken flesh-and-blood form in the form of actor Terry Crews. And he’s not the only recognizable face who makes an appearance in the clip. Helping the Major pursue his nemesis (and fellow ’80s-dancehall-inspired figure) “General Rubbish” are comedian Nick Krohl, voluptuous actress (and Lil Wayne babymother) Lauren London and Workaholics star Blake Anderson. (As with most of Major Lazer’s videos, though, Diplo and cohorts Walshy Fire and Jillionaire are unseen)

Our one complaint is that with all of that starpower, the video goes by way too quickly. “Scare Me” is a brief song (clocking in at just about 3 minutes) and, even filled out with a snippet of Free the Universe‘s “Mashup the Dance,” the video is only 3 1/2 minutes long, 45 seconds of which are credits. That said, we’re looking forward to seeing where this saga will go next.
