 LargeUp Mixtape Mondays

Another week of Mixtape Mondays at hand, with more heavyweight selections from across the globe. Bruising dubplates from the Bay meet wavy soca from Trini, while a 100% reggae en español mix and a selection of favorites from one of our favorite eateries round out the delivery this week. Catch the vibes below.

Jah Warrior Shelter x Black Scale, Musical Murder: Pure murderation here from Bay Area champion sound Jah Warrior Shelter Hi-Fi in collaboration with Black Scale Clothing. These two teams have been repping each other for a minute now, so it only made sense to put their creative works together on this mixtape, with a signature t-shirt collab as well to really seal it up. The mix features 100% Jah Warrior dubplates, and, as anyone who’s familiar with the sound knows, they never come up short, toting some of the deepest digital and acetate crates in the game. This one covers 70 dubs ranging from Too Short to Bounty Killer, Third World, Lee Perry, Alton Ellis, Sanchez, good friends like J Boog, Chronixx and many more. Download here, tracklist here.

Dei Musicale, The Soca Fix 2013: With carnival season fast at hand, we need to keep the soca energy moving around here, and T&T’s own Dei Musicale always get the job done. With J Lava handling the selections from some of our favorites, this 2013 groovy soca mix should get you liming wherever you press play. DJ Stepwise, Spanish Town: Something special for our Spanish-speaking folks this week, courtesy of Bay Area selector and Galang Radio host DJ Stepwise. Every week Stepwise goes live on the Galang Radio show to give the Latin American audience an authentic Jamaican style mixshow, broadcasting live from Oakland, to Argentina, to the world. With a solid back catalog of mixtapes over the years, Stepwise stays true to his roots with this one, mixing strictly tunes en español, with some custom specials in the mix for good measure. Spanish reggae is definitely a worldwide ting, and this mix of roots, dancehall and plena features some of the best. Stream and download below, tracklist here.

Max Glazer, Miss Lily’s Family Style Mega-Mix: If you’re a regular LargeUp visitor, you’ve definitely heard about downtown Manhattan Jamaican eatery/cultural mecca Miss Lily’s. If not, get familiar with our webisode spotlighting it. Not only is the restaurant itself one of our favorite spots to grab a meal in NYC, but its next-door annex, Miss Lily’s Variety, is also the site of RadioLily.com, home of our weekly radio show, The LargeUp Sessions, and the venue for numerous special events featured on the site. Adding compilation curators to their resume, the Miss Lily’s crew have selected 15 favorites for a new VP Records disc, Miss Lily’s Family Style. To hype up the disc, Federation Sound selector and RadioLily chief Max Glazer has cooked up a finely seasoned mega-mix featuring each tune on the CD, including classics like Sizzla’s “Just One of Those Days,” Tanya Stephens’ “It’s A Pity” and newer staples from Busy Signal (“One More Time,”), Vybz Kartel (“Whine”) and Konshens (“So Mi Tan”).
