Mixtape Mondays: The Heatwave x Lady Chann + Vybz Kartel, Randy Valentine x Straight Sound, Deejay Samrai

October 15, 2012

Words by DJ Theory—

It’s a European invasion this week at Mixtape Mondays: Four big mixes from Euro yard cued up and ready to help you push through another week, with hopefully a little something for everyone. Get your download on below.

Lady Chann, Dun Dem Season: The Trilogy: One of dancehall’s leading bad gyals returns with the third and final installment of her Dun Dem mixes, this time enlisting our friends at The Heatwave on mix duties to give it that proper shine. Lady Chann has been holding it down for the ladies and dancehall in the UK for years—as have The Heatwave, in their own way— so it’s only fitting these top UK forces teamed up for the project. Expect plenty of raw bashy dancehall, with Chann spitting over a few hip-hop and UK funky beats as well, with additional features from Gappy Ranks, Lemar, Glamma Kid, our pal Kush Arora and more. Stream and download below, tracklist here.

The Heatwave, 100% Vybz Kartel mix: As an added bonus The Heatwave just laced a 100% Kartel megamix for their Rinse FM podcast, from current anthems and crossover hits to older b-sides and forgotten forwards. As The Heatwave describe it, it’s “X rated slackness, controversy, badman tunes, social commentary, weed anthems, poetic lyrics and the maddest flows to come out of Jamaica in the last 10 years.” If you rate the Werl’ Boss, you’ll have yourself a 2-hour holiday with this one. Randy Valentine x Straight Sound: Bring Back The Love Mixtape: Big reggae mix right here! Swiss bad boys Straight Sound along with Hemp Higher Productions and J.O.A.T present the debut mixtape from one of the most bubbling voices in reggae in Europe right now, Mr. Randy Valentine. Unlike many other artist mixes out there, Randy digs a little deeper into his clear influences, flipping rhymes and sweet melodies over classic dancehall, foundation and Studio One riddims. Considering this is all previously unreleased material, it’s recommended you cop this now to get familiar with one of the newest singjays on the rise. Stream below, direct download here. Peep the video for Bring Back The Love here.

Deejay Samrai, October Mix: Manchester DJ/producer Samrai just dropped this new mix to hype up the latest Swing Ting dance with Rinse Fm’s Brackles this upcoming weekend. Much like the party, the mix dips into a few different flavors, combining dancehall with boogie, grime, hip hop, garage, funky, jungle, soca, house… and in a way that all compliment each other. If you’re looking for something a little different this week throw this one on, and vibe out. Stream and download below, tracklist and more info here.
