Brooklyn producer Dre Skull just debuted the first single off a full-length album he’s recorded with dancehall’s current undisputed champ Vybz Kartel. “Go Go Wine” streamed exclusively yesterday on Pitchfork, of all places, which tells you a little about how different this album is from every other record Vybz has put his stamp on. Even crazier, given the placement, it sounds like DANCEHALL–specifically an angry lovechild of the Showtime and Liquid riddims–as opposed to dancehall vocals collaged onto a tribal house track (not that we’re always mad at those). Just about the right tempo, in fact, to do some damage at street dances and dancehall mixshow but still fit a cameo verse from Jim Jones (or whoever) on the Hot97 refix. Best believe we’ll be watching this one for the summer.
