Bermuda’s Royal Gazette reported last week that bermy bashment star Collie Buddz and his brother Matthew Harper have applied for permission to launch a new radio station on the island, prospectively named Vibe 103. Although the format for the proposed station would be pop, the brothers claim Vibe 103 will stand out from current offerings with a more-music, less talk format, promising 45(!) minutes of hit music every hour. Fans might expect Collie to associate himself with a more reggae or urban-formatted radio venture but they can take heart from the fact that the Vibe 103 also promises to dedicate 10 percent of it’s playlist to local artists. As one of the triangle’s few homegrown musical heroes, that stipulation is bound to highlight Collie’s own tunes–as well as giving him a chance to put on his soundsystem siblings in the local dancehall scene. A hearing to review the proposal will be held next Tuesday, May 18 at the Cathedral, so if you’re in Bermuda call your local representative (or maybe ombuddzman).
