Mixtape Mondays: Champion Squad, Unity Sound, Jugglerz

August 28, 2017

Words by DJ Shirkhan/Safari Sound

It’s Monday again and this week we travel to Sweden and hand over the column to Shirkhan from Safari Sound. Strictly dancehall mixes this week, from Europe to Japan to Florida. Run tune!

Champion Squad, Dancehall Lessons (Volume 3): DJ Reem of the big Florida sound Champion Squad has delivered solid mixtapes throughout the years, and this is no exception. The third volume in the Dancehall Lessons mixtape series contains some of the biggest scorchers in Jamaican music from the early 1990s. I recommend that you also listen to the previous volumes and be on the lookout for volume four, due very shortly. Stream and download below.

Unity Sound, Dancehall Mood 18: Let’s keep one foot in the US, and another one in Japan. Crossfire from Unity Sound, who was based in Japan for many years, has moved back to the States. But that doesn’t mean he’s slowed down the mixtape production. Unity Sound keep dropping one bad mix after another and Dancehall Mood 18Badness to Bashment is the latest. I was in the gym the other day looking for a hardcore mix to give me that extra adrenaline rush, and this one showed up in my feed. What a way this mix is tough. It starts with some of the hardest songs in dancehall right now and rounds up with some nice party bangers. Stream below.

Jugglerz, DJ Smo Presents Hypeline Episode 2: All My Life: The last mix for this week is from German top sound, Jugglerz’ new selector DJ Smo. Smo has recently started to make a name for himself with wicked productions and mixes (check his latest single with Gage). I’ve never heard him play live but rumors are that he masters the art of dance shelling. This is the second episode of DJ Smo’s mixtape series and contains hot dancehall tracks from the streets of Jamaica, spiced up with some of the current rap and R&B bangers. Stream below.
