Major Lazer have teamed up with Showtek, the Dutch duo perhaps best known for their collaborations with David Guetta, for their latest single, “Believer.” LargeUp readers may recognize the track: It’s a re-make of “Good Swimma,” from the soundtrack to the Trinidadian movie God Loves the Fighter, which premiered here back in 2013.

In Major Lazer and Showtek’s version, the original, by Trinidad’s Freetown Collective and Q-Major, is flipped on its head. While maintaining some of its original, reggae-flavored essence, “Believer” accompanies Freetown Collective frontman Muhammed Mwakil’s powerful statement with a pulsating, high-energy EDM rhythm.

Although we would have loved to have seen Freetown, a group which has been making waves in Trinidad & Tobago for some time now, get credit as featured artists, we are glad to see their music and message getting carried to a wider audience.

Accompanying the release of “Believer” is a lyric video which follows in the aesthetic footsteps of Major Lazer’s previous clips, with dynamic graphics and typography that captures the rhythm of the music and culture. Watch the video here, then check out the clip for the original song below. And if you’re in Miami, you can catch a rare U.S. screening of God Loves the Fighter tomorrow at Wynwood’s Third Horizon Caribbean Film Festival.
