LargeUp Premiere: The Lickshots – “Dubpaint”

May 2, 2016

Recorded direct to a two-inch tape machine using strictly vintage instruments and analog effects, mysterious instrumental outfit The Lickshots construct layered, complex riddims with a deeply rooted reggae and dub sound rarely touched upon even in this revival-minded era. “Dub Paint,” the first release from their upcoming self-titled EP, begins with a dubplate-style intro from Rice & Peas’ Micro Don before settling into a lulling rhythm punctuated by soaring flute and melodica. Vibes!

The Lickshots EP release party is tonight at Mobile Mondays at Bowery Electric in NYC. The Lickshots EP is out May 6th on the Rockers International label made famous by Augustus Pablo andย newly revived by his son, Addis Pablo.
