Dub pioneer Scientist is bringing his trademark sound to aย slightlyย unexpected collaborationโ€”a remix of Bay Area dance collective Afrolicious‘s disco tune “Crazy.” A disco track with a distinct Caribbean flavor, the track features bouncy guitars, catchy horn licks, a melodica and the vocal stylings of Trinidad & Tobago’s Freshislife, who actually inspired the remix. The now Los Angeles-based Scientist heard the originalย at an Afrolicious show, and according to the band’s leader Pleasuremaker, “wanted to know who the vocalist was on our song โ€˜Crazy.โ€™ He told me it reminded him of the late Jamaican vocalist Junior Delgado who was one of his frequent collaborators. He offered to do a remix on the spot…”

Stream the tune below, a somewhat era-defying addition to the unsung canon of Caribbean disco, and read Kieran Meadows’ in-depth 2012 interview with Scientist for more on what the elusive Jamaican engineer has been up to.
