We’re back tonight with the first 2014 edition of the LargeUp Sessions with DJ Gravy (huge shouts to the one DJ Rampage for holding us down last week!) on RadioLily.com, with co-hosts Jesse Serwer and Jah Banks. But first, we’ve still got some old LargeUp Sessions business to share, from what was easily one of the livest editions of 2013.

Two worlds came together on the Dec. 12 show, as soca warrior Bunji Garlin stopped by to talk “Differentology,” and Suns of Dub, the international dub outfit led by Jamaican melodica scion Addis Pablo, came to celebrate the release of their self-titled Major Lazer-produced mixtape. It turned out the worlds weren’t so far apart: Sons of Dub’s Jah Bami attended school in Trinidad with Bunji.

As guest DJ (and LargeUp’s resident soca-ologist) Jam Central dropped Dre Skull’s Loudspeaker riddim, and all-star engineer Kieran Meadows kept things tight in the mix, Bunji kicked into a wicked freestyle addressing figures in the room one by one, showcasing Supernatural-like improvisational chops. That was just the beginning, as Addis busted out his melodica for a one-of-a-kind dub-meets-soca jam. Stream/download the freestyle MP3, and/or the full show below; pree pics from the session; and tune in to the LargeUp Sessions tonight from 6-8 EST on RadioLily.
