Mixtape Mondays: Angela Hunte, Tribe of Kings x Boom Steppa, Yaadcore

Words by Deejay Theory —

Halloween is finally over after what seemed like a solid week this year… Back to life, back to reality with another slice of our weekly radio show featuring a gang of special guests, a large dancehall premiere from SoCal, and a deeply rooted tribute from Jamaica. Catch a fire below.

The LargeUp Sessions on Radio Lily w/ DJ Gravy & Guest Angela Hunte: This past Thursday marked a special Halloween edition of our weekly radio program The LargeUp Sessions. Our own DJ Gravy was at the controls as always manning the station at Radio Lily longside LargeUp cohorts Jesse Serwer and Kieran Meadows, discussing music and culture and of course the topic of duppies and vampires in the dance. Soon after the team is joined by St. Thomas rapper Paebak as well as German reggae artist Uwe Banton. It was a pleasure to have miss Angela Hunte on the show, who was kind enough to pass thru and share some new music, discuss her latest works with Gyptian, and vibe out in studio. Stream below and tune in to the LargeUp Sessions every Thursday 6-8pm on RadioLily.com.

LargeUp Premiere: Tribe of Kings x Boom Steppa, Head Kech A Fire: Some brand new fire hot off the press from San Diego champion sound Tribe of Kings. This one is a boomshot, dancehall ting hosted by JA’s Boom Steppa who comes out swinging right out the gate. Gotta salute Tribe of Kings for always pushing to turn folks on to an artist they may not be familiar with but will no doubt come to rate (peep their recent MasSicker mixtape same way). Overall another sick dancehall tape from the Tribe of Kings fam, mixed up again by the homie Dash Eye. Stream and download below, tracklist here.

Yaadcore, Hail Tafari Vol. 2: More heartical movements from the leading DJ in the roots music revival, Jamaica’s own Yaadcore. This serves as an appropriate counter to the duppies and vampires of the world, with Yaadcore doing what he does best, serving strictly roots and culture food to the people around the clock. This mix is part 2 of his “Hail Ras Tafari” series, with this round paying tribute to H.I.M’s day of coronation on Nov. 2nd, while reeling off classics and modern livications from some of the strongest voices in reggae music past and present. Stream and download below, tracklist here.
