LargeUp Premiere: Muzik Jones Drew’s “Believers” Video

January 3, 2013

Words by Jesse Serwer—

The Bahamas are just a few hours’ boat ride from South Florida, and Bahamians have been a part of the area’s fabric going back to the early 1800s. The list of Miami-area musicians with Bahamian roots includes members of KC and the Sunshine Band (which was originally known as the Sunshine Junkanoo Band) and even Uncle Luke.

One of the newest Bahamian talents to emerge from Miami and its surrounds is R&B singer/songwriter/producer Muzik Jones Drew. The R&B singer/songwriter/producer recently released the single “Believers” in advance of his upcoming debut album, and he’s passed LargeUp the song’s video (directed by hip-hop video kingpin Rik Cordero) to premiere. Musically speaking, “Believers” is a lot more Okayplayer than LargeUp but it’s just so tight we couldn’t resist scooping our Afro-headed partner site.

Stylistically, “Believers” falls somewhere between the neo-soul territory of a Bilal and the “alt R&B” camp led by Frank Ocean, et. al. In other words, whether you’re in your mid 30s or early 20s, you’ll probably dig it just the same.
