Kiwi-Hall: Check Out Daniel Bedingfield’s New Sound

April 26, 2012

Words by Emily Shapiro—

New Zealand native Daniel Bedingfield first made a name for himself in the UK garage scene a decade ago with three UK No. 1 singles and a hit 2002 album, Gotta Get Thru This. The brother of pop sensation Natasha Bedingfield has been relatively quiet since then but it appears that during his hiatus, Bedingfield spent time writing music and collaborating with artists in Jamaica like Tessanne Chin and Busy Signal. He developed a relationship with VP Records and, apparently, a taste for creating some dancehall-like music of his own.

On his Jamaica Runs Tings mix, the now LA-based Bedingfield put his own spins on popular dancehall songs “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t” and “Swag Tun Up.” His most recent track “Sometimes You Just Know” features Bedingfield’s emo tones over the ever-popular Overproof Riddim. We’re not sure how we feel about the style thus far but it’s clear that Bedingfield shares our appreciation for dancehall, and we’re looking forward to hearing more from him as he develops as an artist. Check out “Sometimes You Just Know” below and his Soundcloud here, form your own opinion and let us know what you think:
