Mixtape Mondays: Solomonic Sound, Chan Dizzy x Black Chiney, Green B

April 23, 2012

Words by DJ Theory—

Whether you’re recovering from Coachella, 4/20 festivities, or just need new ammo to attack this Monday, we got some digital dub, undiluted dancehall and brand new ganja tunes to get your week bubbling right. We also recommend you download The Highest Grade from Snypaa Ent. that went up on Friday, as an added bonus to this weeks post.

Solomonic Sound, Jahson Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Brostep Vampires & Womp Zombies: One of the baddest juggling and dubplate soundsystems in North America, Solomonic are back with another one, with Burlington, VT’s Jahson at the controls. This one is a straight digital dub mix, cleverly playing on the title and theme of Scientist Rids The World of the Evil Curse of The Vampires, easily one of our favorite dub records of all time. Clearly looking for a break from the gritty, wompy, “brostep” that’s dominating the dubstep world, Jahson takes you back to a style and fashion that helped create and influence modern dubstep as we know it. With tracks from Die & Break Feat. MC Fats, Michael Prophet, Joe Ariwa & The Trixsters, Dubkasam, Johnny Osbourne, V.I.V.E.K., No More Babylon Feat. Kenny Knots and more, this mix will quickly have you steppin’ in your slippers. Salute to Jahson for this one, maybe we can convince him to make a download available?  Plus the cover is too ill, had to post a large version so you can play “name the dubstep DJ.”  Full stream below, more info here.

Chan Dizzy x Black Chiney, Lord Is My Witness: The unstoppable Black Chiney Sound (pree their new website here) just dropped this murderous new tape with one of Jamaica’s sharpest young stars, Mr. Chan Dizzy, mixed by the ever-reliable Willy Chin. Known worldwide for huge tunes like “Hello Badmind,”Strange Face” and “21 Gun Salute,” Dizzy’s newest heater is a single with I-Octane called “Til Kingdom Come” and helps set the tone for this mix. There’s also a diss track geared toward Masicka over Ross’s “Stay Schemin,” which fired up a response from him and the fans—you be the judge.  Backed by the full stamp and riddims of Head Concussion Records (led by young JA star producer Russian), this project is a lethal combination of pure, unfiltered dancehall. Green B, Hot Gyal Promotion Vol. 4.2.0: Our girl Green B just came with another installment in her Hot Gyal Promotion series, and this time it’s all about the weed. Volume 4.2.0 is a mix of ganja tunes highlighting JA, The UK, Hawaii, and the kush capital a.k.a Northern California (where Green B resides.) For this one, B strayed away from the usual weed anthems and shines some light on newer tunes, like Chan Dizzy’s “Herbalist,” Supa Hype’s “Get High” and Lady G’s “Herbie,” plus singles from young artists like Bencil, Patexx and Delus. The “cookies” ganja strain is a favorite of UK star Gappy Ranks who took it upon himself to record the Cookies EP here in CA. This then spawned the Throw Me Herb riddim featured on the mix, with tunes from Busy Signal, Chino, Laden, Bobby Hustle and more. And it wouldn’t be a true irie Norcal CD without some Jawaiian vibes, here courtesy of B.U.B.Z & Teomon from Maui, and some big tunes from Polynesian reggae ambassador J Boog. You’ll also find an original remix from Winstrong and DJ Jacques and Los Rakas‘ swisher-heavy “Hierba,” with Major Lazer and Leftside’s quirky weed tune “Mary Jane” wrapping things up. Grab a bagga grades and catch a fire to this one. Stream, download and tracklist here.
