Meemee Nelzy, a French singer of Guadeloupian extraction, has just released her second album, Kréyòl Seasoning. The eight-track album mixes relaxed jazz and bossa nova elements with electronic beats and, as the title suggests, just the right amount of Antillean kréyòl flavoring. As Meeemee says in her notes, “All songs [were] cooked with a West Indian spirit and with some spices from West Indians beatmakers and friends.” Kreyol Seasoning is an exciting release for Nelzy, who released Âme Nouvelle in 2009, and has previously worked with Large Professor: Expect heavy rotation in the bedrooms of the world. It brings to mind Les Nubians, who are also from Paris and feature French influence on their albums.
