Terry Lynn‘s Kingstonlogic (2008) was one of the more unusual and unique records from a Jamaican artist in recent times, rich with dark, intense, industrial-meets-dancehall soundscapes (courtesy of Swiss producer Wildlife!, among others) and rebellious lyrics about globalization, political corruption and other concerns (The Guardian described it all as the “Jamaican CNN”). It’s been a minute since we’ve heard Ms. Lynn’s name but, Seen informs us, the Waterhouse native has been up to all sorts of tings: recording and touring with Tricky, landing tunes in CSI:NY and the Steve Carell/Tina Fey movie Date Night. More recently, a snippet of “In This Time,” a Tricky-produced tune from her upcoming sophomore album, has just debuted in a scene from the CW show Nikita. While that tune finds Terry in a gentler, more melodic mood, “Fire,” the first single from the project (produced by UK dubstep dude High Rankin) sees her return to the aggro vibe that typified her debut. Sample both below, and look out for more music soon.
