Miss Haiti Sarodj Bertin is shaping up to be a bit of a crowd favorite for the Miss Universe contest tonight but there are at least 6 Caribbean stunners among the top-rated beauty queens including Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillips and La Toya Woods from Trinidad & Tobago, as well as contestants from Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.

Update: Miss Haiti sadly never made the Top 15 but our other pick, Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillips, knocked skinny white chicks out left and right and then gave the smartest response to the “final question” about capital punishment–to come in as 2nd runner up Behind Miss Mexico! That means if the official Miss Universe is unable to fulfill her duties because she appears in a sex tape or something, Yendi will step up and wear the crown. (Which, if you have seen Miss Mexico, could be a win-win situation. Just saying).

In other Haiti-to-the-Universe news, presidential hopeful and ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean has been officially barred from running but has announced his intention to appeal the election board’s decision. Our neighbor Dahved Levy had an extensive interview with the man himself not long before the announcement, touching on a range of topics from his Yele Haiti NGO to skits from Blunted on Reality.
