Mixtape Mondays: Romain Virgo x Pink Panther, Federation Sound, DJ Crooks

Words by LargeUp Crew

Blessings, hope everyone had a great weekend! We’ve been raving in Miami this past week but ready to get back to business at MM. Reel off some brand new music and certified classics in this week’s roundup below.

LargeUp Premiere: Romain Virgo x Pink Panther, Lovesick Mixtape: In comes the ting called the Romain Virgo “Lovesick” sampler mixed by OG selector Pink Panther. Pink Panther was formerly known as MC of Black Kat, and 5 star general, and 9 time World Clash Champion. The 16-track album takes listeners on a journey that explores every emotion felt when finding love, losing love and finding love again. In the many twists and turns of romance and relationships, Romain represents a young man who has experienced it all and now has a dynamic story to tell. Executive produced by Niko Browne for Lifeline Music, with additional production by Sting International and Vikings Production, the album presents a new pop reggae sound traced with his signature lovers rock style woven throughout. Catch a first listen to the album right here.

Federation Sound, Federation Invasion 457: Federation Sound should need no introduction. I’ve been a fan since I moved to NYC in the ‘90s. My friend Selector JD at Deadly Dragon Sound put me on to their quality mix CDs and reggae events early on. Federation were also one of the first sound systems that I could find who were sharing great dancehall mixes online. You can’t go wrong with any of these Federation Invasion mixes and since they’re up to #457 there are plenty to choose from. Top notch selection & production with some impressive dubplates for a good time.

DJ Crooks, Peppaseed Promo Mix: Crooks originally hails from Jamaica and he’s a really active DJ here in LA – handling selection at a ton of weekly and monthly events including roots, dancehall, and bashment nights across the city, as well as some streaming radio gigs too. This latest mix of his is focused on ’90s dancehall and its to promote his new monthly Peppaseed night alongside DJ Fyness. I’m a big fan of Crooks’ work and I really love ’90s dancehall, so ‘nuff said. Heads high.
