Impressions: Chronixx Goes to Australia

Photos by Tristan Edouard

By all accounts, Chronixx had a massive 2014. Reggae’s brightest young star began the year by teaming with friend and mentor Protoje for “Who Knows,” one of 2014’s biggest reggae singles, and followed with his highly regarded Dread and Terrible project; an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon; and a landmark performance at Central Park SummerStage in NYC, just to name a few highlights.

The singjay closed out this most successful of years with his first visit to the Pacific, stopping first in Australia, for shows at The Espy in Melbourne and The Factory in Sydney, before appearing at New Zealand’s Raggamuffin Festival. While in Sydney, the singer and his band, Zinc Fence Redemption, paid a visit to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in that city’s Redfern area, a protest site set up earlier this year on Aboriginal land where a developer is planning to build a commercial development. Photographer Tristan Edouard followed Chronixx on his visit to Sydney, capturing his meeting with Tent Embassy residents and private moments before, during and after his show at The Factory later that night.

Check out Edouard’s pics below, and listen to “Tenement Yard (News Carryin’ Dread),” Chronixx’s new collaboration with reggae legends Inner Circle, here.
