Mixtape Mondays: Romain Virgo x Tek 9 Movements, King Addies, Kalibandulu

Words by Deejay Theory —

More madness and vibes this week at Mixtape Mondays, with a full dose of foundation, exclusives and brand new dancehall shellings. Brooklyn, Jamaica and Italy hold the torch this week, catch a fire below:

Tek 9 Movements x Romain Virgo, Tribute to Foundation Riddims: Respek to Tek 9 Movements outta Brooklyn for linking on this massive foundation mix with one of Jamaica’s brightest singers out today, Mr. Romain Virgo. Romain has a natural sensibility with his flow to ride on foundation riddims, so this combination is the perfect formula. Jumping off with solid renditions of his hits Who Feels it Knows it“, “Love Doctor” and “I Am Rich in Love,” Romain sounds more than comfortable voicing over these classic versions, building this exclusive reel from start to finish. Loud mix to add to the vibes this week. Stream and download below.

King Addies, Vintage is Forever: Keeping in the throwbacks lane for a second, we have another foundation ting on deck from the authority of Brooklyn soundsystems, King Addies. The theme for this mix is simply described but rarely achieved — strictly dubplates from artists from the foundation era who have passed and gone. The key ingredient to ruling tune-for-tunes in clashes for decades finds its way into mixtape form in a casual and listenable medium courtesy of selector A-One. Addies are licking off serious rounds with these sneak peaks into their dub boxes (lets not forget the Bounty Killer mix), giving you pieces of history to take home to your iTunes. Stream and download below.

Kalibandulu, Brand New Collection Vol. 37: Yowww, brand new business from the Italian killas Kalibandulu back with more heat. Their Brand New Collection always delivers and although it’s been a second since we’ve posted they haven’t wasted any time over there cooking up joint after joint, including this madd preview for the highly anticipated Ward 21 record that just dropped. The latest BNC sell off with the best in hot off the press dancehall and a few reggae bits at the finishing line, most notably Jr Gong’s new contribution to the massive Rootsman Riddim. Stream and download below, tracklist here.
