Words by Michellee Nelson—
Like many entertainers before her, the rapper and actress Eve has found a second home in Kingston. Esquire TV’s new travel series The Getaway follows celebs as they experience the best of what their favorite cities have to offer, so it was only a matter of time before their cameras found themselves on the shores of Jamdown. Their latest episode features Eve as she makes her way through Kingston like a true yardie, including a stop at Screechie’s in Hellshire Beach for some of the finest fish the Caribbean has to offer.
Speaking of the finer things in the Caribbean, it wouldn’t be a trip to Jamaica if there was no music involved. Former queen of the now-defunct Ruff Ryders, Eve makes time to lay down a few bars at Truckback Records, the well-known recording studio (and label) located literally in the back of a truck. Eve isn’t the only royalty present, as the queen of dancehall herself, Lady Saw, is also in the building, working on a collaboration with the group New Kidz. Cameras roll as Eve and Ms. Saw have a drink and chat about her near departure from dancehall music.
A word of caution, this episode of The Getaway might just be tempting enough to have you looking for the next flight out. Preview the episode in the clips below:
