Mixtape Mondays: Yaadcore, King Ivier x Dre Island, DJ Autograph

Words by Deejay Theory —

Greetings all, welcome back to another week of vibes here at Mixtape Mondays. This week is all about the conscious selections provided by three seasoned deejay’s from Jamaica, NYC and The Bay. Bashment business will be back, but for now enjoy some carefully selected one drop and roots music.

Yaadcore, Hail Ras Tafari Vol 1: This one shouldn’t need much explanation. Fresh off a US West Coast tour, the man called Yaadcore returns with another positively upfull mixed CD, continuing to feed the roots reggae revival with quality material day in and day out. On his immediate return from touring and backing Protoje, Yaadcore takes another moment to bless all those looking for a conscious addition to their library. Zero slackness will be found here, with the gyal and gun tunes consciously replaced with the beating of kete drums and timeless selections from years past. The mix fondly serves as a tribute to H.I.M on his 121st birthday, and after a lengthy intro from Rastafari elders Yaadcore reels off a list of  foundation roots from Burning Spear, Black Uhuru, Garnett Silk and more, plus some newer cuts from Protoje, Iba Mahr, Midnite and friends. King Ivier x Dre Island, Rastafari Way Mixtape: More inspired collaborations coming from the ever-hustling King Ivier of the mighty Jah Warrior Shelter Hi Fi camp. For this round Ivier teams up with new roots talent Dre Island to share the Rastafari Way mixtape with the world, with over an hour of new music, remixes and exclusives. Dre has been steadily on the tips of tongues of those following the roots reggae movement that’s clear as day at the moment, joining the ranks with some of his peers like Kabaka Pyramid, Protoje, Chronixx, Exco Levi and Jesse Royal. New to many, this mix should get you introduced to an artist I’m sure you’ll be seeing much more of in the next year. Stream below, download here, more info here

DJ Autograph, The Many Moods of Autograph Vol 1: Keeping in line with strong reggae music this week, we blast off a brand new mix from our good friend DJ Autograph. First up in a new mix series highlighting the many moods and styles of a hard working and diverse NYC DJ, Autograph affectionately directed the first installment towards Inspirational Reggae. Autograph grew up in Jamaica where reggae music is clearly a huge part of daily life, seems only appropriate that the many moods of Autograph leads volume one with some heartfelt reggae favorites. Can’t help but notice a large serving of classic Sizzla Kalonji on there too so that’s always a plus… Stream and download below, tracklist here
