Besides for running things in the groovy soca department, Trinidad’s Kes the Band always sounds criss over a summery reggae riddim. Point in case: the ridiculously catchy “Tuesday on the Rocks” on Bambino Musik and Justin “Jus Bus” Nation’s Gyal Season riddim from last year.
Kes’ medium on his latest reggae foray “Can’t Wait” is the Calabash riddim from Shaggy’s Ranch Entertainment. Shaggy pretty much took ownership of the riddim (also voiced by Gyptian and Konshens, among others) with his infectious “Love Mi Jamaica” but, with that tune the subject of a brand-new video, the riddim is ripe once again. Stream “Can’t Wait” below to hear how Kes’ spin on it, and see our feature “Fresh Trinis of Bel Air: Jillionaire Interviews Kes the Band” for a look inside his mind.
