Throwback Thursdays: Daddy Freddy Breaks His World’s Fastest Rapper Record

Words by Jesse Serwer—

British emceeing was all about speed back in the day, and no one chatted faster than Daddy Freddy. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, the Trenchtown-born raggamuffin hip-hop pioneer became the world’s fastest rapper several times over.

With Daddy Freddy having turned up twice on LargeUp in the past few weeks— in The Bug’s “Kill Them” video and again yesteday on Congo Natty’s jungle redux, “UK Allstars”—we thought we’d share this clip of the MC shattering his own Guinness world record for most syllables in a minute, on hokey British TV show Record Breakers.
