Mixtape Mondays: Jasmine Solano x MeLo-X, Yaadcore, Pusha T

Words by DJ Theory —

We’re back with your morning-after-the-Super-Bowl edition of Mixtape Mondays on deck. We know Beyonce’s dancehall-infused halftime performance last night has you in a Caribbean frame of mind, so we’re covering all of the bases with roots, rap, dancehall and electro-bashment business. Your Monday soundtrack should be looking a whole lot better right now. And look for our new LargeUp mix series launching this Friday with a mix from Jillionaire. Boom.

Jasmine Solano x MeLo-X, Electric Punanny Vol. 3: This is another large installment from our girl Jasmine Solano and DJ MeLo-X‘s aptly titled Electric Punany mix series, dropped just in time for the latest edition of their equally electric NYC party. These two Brooklyn artists and tastemakers have been stretching the boundaries for years, crossing over genres and continents like Usain Bolt with speed skates on. With dancehall — specifically the NSFW variety — at the forefront, they weave into electro, R&B, soca and some of our favorite singles, riddims and remixes from today, moving straight into tomorrow. Don’t get too close because you might get shocked… Stream and download below, tracklist here.

Yaadcore, Family Tree Vol 1 & 2: This two-part mix is dedicated to all the global fans and appreciators of the Marley family’s concrete legacy of music. Spanning generations, the Marley family tree runs very deep, with music from Bob, his sons, daughter Cedella and wife Rita touching listeners from every walk of life in every corner of the world. Skillfully compiled and blended by Yaadcore, the DJ for exploding new roots artist Protoje (look out for our interview with him soon), this two-part disc is essential listening for any reggae music fan. Stream and download both discs below, tracklist one here, tracklist two here.

Pusha T, Wrath of Caine: In high anticipation of his Def Jam debut, Clipse/G.O.O.D. Music rapper Pusha T had to feed everyone this mixtape and we had to include it here just to make sure you know the time. Fresh off his recent trip to Jamaica, Pusha, a longtime fan and patron of dancehall and Jamaican culture, peppered this one with patois intros to ensure the bodying of some soundbwoy, while coming sharp with features and production that would make a lot of album releases cringe. The Neptunes, Rick Ross, French Montana, Southside, Kanye West, Young Chop, !llmind and Jake One (whose vintage reggae-sampling “Take My Life” is a clear-cut standout) lend a hand on the production side, while Popcaan makes another high profile cameo on the street certified “Blocka.” This is that raw uncut, and of course NSFW…  Stream below, download here.
