It is indeed Christmas Eve and Mixtape Mondays has a few gifts for you as always. We’ve been graced with a unique and appropriate mix from the Electric Gospel, more raw dancehall from Sweden, and breezy soca vibes from Canada to Trinidad. Happy Holidays from MM!

Skerrit Bwoy x Electric Gospel, Church Hat: Hot off the press, longtime LargeUp bredrin Skerrit Bwoy has a very original offering  in the mixtape department, a recording of strictly gospel music from the 1950’s through 70’s called Church Hat. With what started out as a Christmas gift for his granmama, these dusty recordings pay homage to what she would’ve listened to, with 27 different gospel memories from America and the Caribbean. Skerrit is known for his diversity as a selector, and since moving on from Major Lazer and taking a more religious approach, this one shouldn’t come as much of a shocker. Safari Sound, Imagine We A The Baddis Ting: Swedish sluggers Safari Sound are back at it, adding another dancehall sureshot to the ever-growing collection of mixtapes. Making our Toppa Top 10 Mixtapes of 2012 last week, Safari always come correct and are no strangers to Mixtape Mondays… Letting it be known they’re one of the baddest tings out deh, this one wheels up a few of our most-rated dancehall tunes of 2012 as well as the necessary dubplate pressure and clean slicing from the man like Shirkhan. Poirier, Soca Dat: Our friend Poirier just re-released some heavyweight soca vibes from his Mixpak FM podcast last February, with no-nonsense soca meeting sharp remixes from folks like Dubbel Dutch and Poirier himself. This one should have no problems alleviating some of the winter symptoms found in his home base of Montreal, or wherever you may be seeking a little extra heat right about now.
