LargeUp TV: Usain Bolt 100 Meter

Words by Jesse Serwer, Photos and Video by Martei Korley—

Usain Bolt claimed victory in the 100 meters on Sunday with an Olympic record-setting 9.63 second 100-meter run in London, but right now Jamaicans are staging their own variation on the event. Negril landscape artist and “freestyle professor” Michael Macintosh, a/k/a “Usain,” has a created a track and field-themed version of the traditional Jamaican dice board game, ludi (a derivative of Parcheesi, or ludo) dubbed “Usain Bolt 100 Meter.” Macintosh, who works out of famed Jamaican sign painter Nurse’s shop near the bus park in Negril, breaks down the rules of the game, which pits the world’s fastest man against teammates Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell, Steve Mullins, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater, plus the “USA” and “England,” for our cameras, and introduces us to a master player named Veronica.
