LargeUp Premiere: Listen to Yaadcore’s “Riddim Salut Mixtape, Vol. 1”

Known for his Reggae Aroma mixtape series, the long-running reggae party Dubwise Jamaica, and his association with Protoje, Yaadcore is one of contemporary reggae’s most celebrated selectors. In 2019, he is making a whole new set of moves. He’s parted ways with Dubwise, and is releasing his own tracks, both as a vocalist and as a producer, through a partnership between his own 12 Yaad label and Delicious Vinyl Island.

Yaadcore steps forward into that new energy with Riddim Salut Vol. 1, a mix that is both a tribute to Jamaican riddim culture, and the name of a new party he launched in February.

Riddim Salut Vol. 1 features dubplates from an all-star cast of reggae icons (Kiddus I,  Big Youth, Horace Andy) and current favorites (Protoje, Koffee, Chronixx), over a horde of classic reggae and dancehall riddims: Graduation in Zion, Promise Land, Drum Song, Broadway, Cuss Cuss, Heavenless, M16, Joker Smoker, Natty Dread, M16, Boops. The mix features original artwork from Ellen Wood, inspired by classic reggae and dancehall art of yesteryear.

“This mix is called Riddim Salut instead of Reggae Aroma because it is a musical salute to Jamaican riddim culture,” Yaadcore explains. “I used some of my favourite riddims, as well as some of the most popular current riddims, to make unique dubplate mixes, blending in a remix style not done by any other reggae mix.

Why Salut, with no ‘e’?
I was just trying to be different and, in French, salut means ‘hello.’ This mix is a greeting.”>So, there you have it. Stream Riddim Salut Vol. 1 below, and keep a look out for new music from Yaadcore coming real, real soon.
