Joyride is a new reggae event series inside (and outside) The Standard hotel in NYC, kicking off Thursday, July 12.
Named after the Joyride riddim, the classic dancehall instrumental, Joyride is hosted by Wildcat Ebony Brown and Phillip Leeds, featuring selectors Stretch Armstrong and DJ Gravy. Set at Le Bain, The Standard’s top-floor and rooftop venue, the series promises to be an intoxicating, rhythmic escape bringing proper bashment vibes inside one of NYC’s most exclusive venues.
It’s a return to reggae for Stretch Armstrong, best known as one-half of iconic hip-hop radio duo Stretch and Bobbito; the DJ/author/tastemaker Stretch Armstrong produced the original hip-hop remix of Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam,” back in 1993, among other forays into the genre. DJ Gravy you already know as the co-founder of LargeUp and the founder of NYC’s long-running Rice and Peas party. Music and fashion industry veteran Phillip Leeds and all-around it girl Wildcat Ebony Brown round out the curation team, so expect lots of surprise guests and great collaborations with visual artists.
