EVENT: See Toots Hibbert Live in NYC + Support Education in Jamaica

Reggae icon/pioneer/all-around legend Toots Hibbert (of Toots and the Maytals) will perform an acoustic show at Joe’s Pub in New York City next Wednesday, Oct. 18, to benefit the Rockhouse Foundation, and its work supporting education in Jamaica.

Toots gave reggae its name with 1968’s “Do the Reggae,” and defined its sound with classics like “Bam Bam” and “Pressure Drop.” Nearly 50 years later, he’s still going strong. Here’s a taste of what to expect from Toots in the form of his performance at last year’s International Reggae Day celebration at The James Hotel in NYC.

All proceeds for Wednesday night’s show go to the Rockhouse Foundation, and their work in rural Western Jamaica transforming the places where Jamaica’s children learn, and supporting the people who teach them. Over the past decade, the foundation has invested over US$4 million in projects improving education in the Negril area, including the complete transformation and modernization of the Negril Library and six local schools. Its latest project is the Savannah La Mar Inclusive Infant Academy, a much-needed facility for children with special needs.

Tickets for this benefit event cost $50, and available here. Hold up, though. We’ve got one pair to give away, with the caveat that you’ll spread the word about this benefit event. To enter, post a link to this article to your Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag, #TootsinNYC.
