Ty Dolla $ign, Kranium and Wizkid each come from different genres and cultures, but their recent collaboration, “Can’t Believe,” just makes a whole lot of sense. With Kranium bringing R&B smoothness to dancehall, Wizkid doing the same with Afrobeats (while also pulling heavily from dancehall) and Ty Dolla $ign perpetually occupying the middle ground between hip-hop and outre R&B, their respective styles merge together quite seamlessly, in fact.
The track, produced by Jamaica’s ZJ Liquid for Kranium’s upcoming EP, now has a remix from mOma + Guy (a/k/a DJ mOMa and Guy of New York City-based party Everyday People) which makes the trio’s connection flow even smoother. Re-christening the track “Cyan Believe,” Moma + Guy accentuate the dancehall vibes in places, and minimize them in others, to create a remix that’s breezier than the original, conjuring some of the same feelings and flavors as last year’s radio-dominating dancehall/Afro/pop fusion from Drake, et. al.
Stream “Cyan Believe” here, and catch mOma at the next edition of Everyday People this Saturday at La Marina in NYC.
