Words by Kieran Meadows
Kirk “Kirkledove” Bennett is known as a top Jamaican drummer, who tours with Beres Hammond and Busy Signal, and has played on hit songs like Hammond’s “I Feel Good” and Sizzla’s “Solid As A Rock.” We listed him at No. 8 on our Toppa Top 10 Reggae Drummers list, which had legendary Sly Dunbar in the top spot. It is perhaps less well known that Bennett is also a talented producer. That might change with an upcoming debut album called Rumble In The Jungle, due out in June from VP Records.
Our first taste off the LP is the track “Rubba Dub Again,” which teams Bennett with Tarrus Riley, and the result is a, yes, rub-a-dub vibe that starts with a trademark Kirkledove drum fill intro.
Listen here and look out for more from the album soon.
