Ricky Blaze Conquers the Moment In His New “Pull It” Video

Words by Marcha M. Johnson

Having already worked with the likes of Vybz Kartel, Rihanna and Major Lazer, Ricky Blaze is in a class by himself when it comes to making music that captures both the sound of the Caribbean and the edge of North American pop music.

Ahead of his upcoming album, Conquer the Moment, the singer/producer has dropped some visuals for his latest single, “Pull It.” The track suits its title, with a mellow, moderate bass line, layered with Blaze’s smooth vocals and lyrical charm. The man behind Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh,” Ding Dong’s “Badman Forward, Badman Pull Up” and his own “I Feel Free” skillfully merges elements of R&B and reggae to create a listening experience that can really only be compared to his own work.

The Flatbush, Brooklyn native pays homage to his roots with a video shot in his local stomping grounds. However, despite what you might expect from the song’s lyrics, Blaze isn’t flanked by women or posturing with macho bravado. The visuals instead frame Ricky in a more reflective state, on his own in the same streets that made him.

Watch “Pull It” below and look out for Conquer the Moment in November.
