Cadenza is the production alias of one Oliver Rodigan, who, as you might guess from his surname, is the son of legendary radio DJ (and sound clash titan), David Rodigan. As he gears up to release his debut album, Rodigan/Cadenza has dropped a video for his latest single, “Foundation,” featuring Busy Signal and Stylo G.
Hinged on a sample of the classic Real Rock riddim, the track mixes classic reggae/sound system vibes (including shoutouts to some classic dons of the dancehall like Papa San and Lt. Stitchie) with some modern touches in the bass and drum departments. The video introduces Rodigan’s vision for Cadenza as a place where Major Lazer-esque animated visuals collide with northwest London West Indian grocery shops and Saab convertibles. Watch it here, and if you’re feeling this whole classic reggae samples thing, you might want to check this out.
