Selector’s Choice: DJ Rampage (Rampage Sound Global)

Words by DJ Rampage

Our Selector’s Choice column, where we take a look inside the crates of some of our favorite DJs, returns direct from Miami with Belize native DJ Rampage, general of Rampage Sound Global and tour DJ/selecta for Ms. Lauryn Hill.

Blessed love, DJ Rampage Global coming to you live and direct on Selectors Choice. The genres I present to you are Roots. Dub. Dancehall:

Jah9 – “New Name”

New Name, Hail Rastafari! Weak heart ah tremble when dem hear it sound. Jah 9 puts into word, sound, and power the revelation of Rastafari, Emperor of Ethiopia, Crowned on November 2nd 1930, Christ in his 2nd coming as man on Earth in the flesh, Rightful ruler of the earth. The song, produced by legendary selector Rory Stone Love, is a declaration of faith in Rastafari King Selassie I.

Jesse Royal – “Gimmie Likkle”

On a riddim from Notis Productions, Jesse Royal hits us with an anthem dedicated to the healing plant of all nations. The Palace Pickney is letting it be known, he’s “Tiaad of the system”: Herb is the healing of the nation, it’s time for the powers that be to free it up.

Melonie Gillett – “Pandemonium (All Ova Di World Remix)”

Produced by Salim Stines of Jamaica’s Track House Records, this is a hard-hitting one for the masses! Calling out people from the four corners of the earth (“All over the world! Hands up in the air!”) Belize’s Melonie Gilett celebrates life and oneness in the act of fun times, under one collective body.

Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley — “Is It Worth It”

Painting a picture of the world of a gunman, Damian Marley asks the question: “Is it worth It”? Produced by Winta James on the Rootsman Riddim featuring other huge artists and tracks, this one has become a staple in the roots and culture circle.

Daniel Bambaata Marley – “Maintain”

Bambaata teams up with Digital B, with the aim of influencing today’s youth to maintain their culture and spread the message of Rastafari.

Catch DJ Rampage tonight at Dubwise Miami @ Coyo Taco in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District.
