It’s February—Reggae Month—meaning it’s just a more few days until the Earth Day of one Bob Marley. This year makes 70 years since the singer’s birth, and the milestone is being marked with performances throughout the week in Jamaica, including a jam session Friday at 56 Hope Road (with Chronixx and No-Maddz, among others) and a huge concert in downtown Kingston on Saturday night.

But February can not commence without the 1st, and so we can’t begin our celebration of Reggae Month without a tribute to the singer whose own birthday begins the month: the late, great Dennis Brown, who would have turned 58. The Crown Prince of Reggae’s voice was unmistakeable, but to help you remember it a little more clearly, VP Records has compiled a playlist (see below) featuring some of his greatest tunes: “Deliverance Will Come,” “I am the Conqueror,” “Revolution.”

They’ve also given us a CD copy of D Brown’s Love & Hate: The Best of Dennis Brown hits collection, and a T-shirt bearing his likeness to give away. To enter to win, share this link, http://bit.ly/1DyJpWa, with the hashtag #WhyILoveDennisBrown. The winner will be contacted by direct message, so make sure you’re following us at @Largeupdotcom

For more D. Brown, pree our 10 Hidden Dennis Brown Gems list, learn about his Order of Distinction from the Jamaican government here, and watch him performing with Shinehead, Maxi Priest and Little Lenny on David Letterman, in a rare clip recently brought to our attention by our DJ Autograph.
