Impressions: Hollie Cook Live in NYC

Words by LargeUp Crew, Photos by Martei Korley

Hollie Cook kicked off her inaugural US tour with her much anticipated New York City debut Monday night, bringing the house down at Brooklyn’s Glasslands Gallery. The angelic-voiced U.K. singer performed selections from her self-titled 2011 LP and 2014 follow-up, Twice, including favorites “Sugar Water,” “Ari Up” and “99,” closing things with her Lovers Rock cover of The Whispers’ “And The Beat Goes On,” before a crowd that included Steel Pulse’s Sidney Mills, Jamaican percussion legend Larry McDonald, Rockers NYC founder Marcus Burrowes and others.

The show followed a busy week in NYC that also saw Hollie perform at Sirius XM’s Rockefeller Center studios, and sit for interviews with Vogue and Interview, among other magazines. As the media sponsors for Hollie’s tour, we managed to grab some moments with the singer, too for a fashion shoot we’ll be revealing later this week.

Of course, we had to snap some photos of the show itself, too.

Rainy October night in New York be damned! Hollie delivered vintage, tropical vibes wrapped up in a banana-print skirt.

Anticipated show=enthusiastic audience.

An encore was called for, but would Hollie oblige?
