Words by Jesse Serwer—
We featured OMI’s original “Cheerleader” video back in 2012—the impeccably catchy pop-reggae track came out of nowhere and captured enough of our collective attention to land OMI at No. 2 on our list of top artists to watch for 2013. Nearly a year and a half later, “Cheerleader,” apparently still gaining strength, has been given a makeover for Ultra Music by Brooklyn’s Ricky Blaze, whose turned up the dancefloor appeal with a shuffling drum pattern. Now the new version has a video for itself, a visual refix of sorts, which chops up the story-based original into something a little less linear and a little more appropriate for the new audio.
