AUDIO: Download Grand Analog’s “Lion Head”

Words by Natalie Weiner—

Toronto hip-hop/soul/? group Grand Analog is getting ready to drop their third full-length, through Jillionaire‘s brand-spankin’-new Feel Up Records (It’s the label’s first release). Entitled Modern Thunder, the album showcases the ensemble’s proclivity for combining genres, from classic boom-bap to rock to Afrobeat, while focusing on live sounds (as opposed to electronic ones).

Lead singer Odario Williams and his brother DJ Ofield were both born in Guyana—their father was actually a selector back in the day, and you can hear the strong dub influence on a number of Grand Analog tracks (“Take It Slow” is a stand out).

On “Lion Head,” the group digs in with an old-school vibe (who doesn’t love a horn section) to get their upbeat message across. “A toast to a new beginning” is exactly what we’re all looking for now that summer’s right around the corner, right? We’ve got an exclusive, limited-time-only free download available of the track below – take a listen, and don’t forget to check out the full album when it drops on April 22nd.
