Mixtape Mondays: So Shifty, Brimstone Sounds x Sizzla Kalonji, Duss Ova aka 220 Sound

Words by Deejay Theory —

With Carnival rapidly approaching and winter wrapping up soon we’re keeping the music and vibes flowing as always here at Mixtape Mondays. So whether you’re getting ready for the road or just getting ready for work we got you… Wheel up some memories and brand new music below

So Shifty, Soca Run Town: The bad bwoys in Germany at the So Shifty headquarters have been busy as always, with deejay/producers Jr. Blender and Bigga T chefing up everything under the sun when it comes to Caribbean music and vibes from all corners. Their 2013 soca mix which dropped at Carnival time last year was highly accurate and introduced many to what would become the biggest tune of the year with Bunji’s “Differentology“. The guys return with the ’14 follow up leading into T&T Carnival with another extra large selection of the tunes (or otherwise) that will very soon Run D Road. Stream and download below, tracklist here

Brimstone Sounds, Big Tunes Vol. 15 Sizzla Kalonji Inna Culture Style – Fire Inna Babylon: Quintessential mix of strictly Sizzla Kalonji on deck here, mixed nice and criss by the one DJ Crown from Eugene, Oregon-based Brimstone Sounds. Iconic and timeless material from Kalonji from front to back, peeled exclusively from 7″ and 12″ vinyl and encapsulating the legacy of one of the strongest voices in modern reggae and roots music. Focusing towards Sizzla’s conscious classics from the 90’s, this is a must for one drop and Kalonji fans. Stream below, more info here

Duss Ova aka 220 Sound, Bogle Mania: Topping things off this week with a large serving of 90’s dancehall, something we’re rarely mad at around here. Salute to France / Switzerland’s Duss Ova aka 220 Sound for selecting this collection of throwbacks from the baddest deejay’s with a handful of influential singles, slept on singles and b-sides, a stack of gun tunes and a barrage of the tuffest lyrics. Ramming over 70 tunes in a little over an hour Duss Ova Sound pay tribute to dancehall’s most celebrated dancer Mr Wacky aka Bogle and the sound of 90’s slackness in style with this one.
