You Rate It: Wayne Marshall, Assassin + Damian Marley Connect On “Stupid Money”

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Rick Ross, the master of using food as a metaphor for the trappings of success, would approve of how Wayne Marshall begins his verse on his trappings-of-success-themed “Stupid Money”: Cheddar cheddar, genuine leather/From bully beef to lobster bruschetta.

Off his upcoming Ghetto Youths International EP Tru Colors, which is also set to contain recent LargeUp favorite “I Know,” “Stupid Money” features guest vocals from Assassin and a children’s chorus over hip-hop production from Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley. That’s it for the food references —how are you going to top bully beef and lobster bruschetta?— the rest of the song travels in a vein reminiscent of Kanye West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” It’s a catchy song, though, one we wouldn’t be too surprised to hear infiltrating commercial radio. Stream below, and tell us what you think in the comments.
