Words by Jesse Serwer—
Young, Gifted & Yellow is the name of VP Records/17 North Parade’s new Yellowman anthology. The disc, the title of which slyly references Nina Simone’s classic “Young, Gifted & Black,” features the lion’s share of Yellow’s classics from “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng” and “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt” through to “I’m Getting Married in the Morning” and its inevitable sequel, “I’m Getting Divorced.”
LargeUp has two copies of the CD package (which includes two discs with a total of 40 remastered tracks, plus a full concert performance DVD recorded in 1985) to give away. To enter, make sure you like LargeUp on Facebook, then find the post about Young, Gifted & Yellow on our wall and leave your favorite Yellowman lyric in the comments of the post. The two commenters with the most entertaining posts will win CDs. Yellowman’s dropped some pretty comical and wacky lyrics over the years; if you’re a dancehall head, you should know a few by heart but, if not, we’ve got the full Young, Gifted & Yellow streaming right here.
