Blood Runs Deep: Barbados Soca Legend Anderson Armstrong Remixed

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Faluma Records, the Carnival Carnival music-focused German label, has returned with an EP featuring remixes of a pair of recent tunes by Bajan soca legend Anderson Armstrong, better known as Blood. Formerly the lead singer of Barbados’ famed Square One band alongside Alison Hinds, Blood has been one of his country’s top soca producers for years, with several Party Monarch titles to his credit as well.

The remixers enlisted on the Go!!/This Is The One Remixes EP are a mix of familiar names from the tropical bass circuit—London’s Murlo (whose All Murlo Mixtape premiered on today’s Mixtape Mondays), Montreal’s Poirier (also featured on the site today, via his remix of Natalie Storm’s “Gal U Good”) and So Shifty—along with some not so familiar ones like Belgium’s Max Le Darona and Zurich’s Pushking Noize. While some are more accomplished others, everyone came strong with their contributions, especially those tasked with the propulsive “Go!!”

Stream a 12-minute megamix featuring the 10 versions (five for each tune) on the EP, and watch videos for the original singles here:
