Renaissance Bwoy: Check Out Melo-X’s “God Magic”

Words by Tasha Brown—

Melo-X, the East Flatbush, Brooklyn-raised Jamaican, wears many hats. Fresh off his recent collaborative LP with singer Jesse Boykins III, the rapper/DJ/producer (and cousin of Jah Vinci, formerly of Vybz Kartel’s Portmore Empire), has a new EP on the way, GOD: LoFI.

But before the album drops, Melo-X has released “God Magic.” The track puts the story of his journey to sound waves, recounting his humble beginnings. As he puts it, his constant hustle and grind over the years can only be explained by “God Magic.”

Now, let the spirit move you even more and check out Melo-X’s self-directed GOD: LoFI visual piece video. Truly an artist in many different senses of the word, Melo is also the party starter (along with Jasmine Solano) behind Electric Punanny, the NYC dancehall fete that’s full of popping, grinding, and dutty wining. But in case you haven’t partied with him yet, no worries. He’ll be DJing at our second annual Winter Music Massive on Thursday, March 21 at Blackbird Ordinary in Downtown Miami, along with his Electric Punanny partner-in-crime, Jasmine Solano. Melo-X will surely bless you with his “God Magic” – dancehall vibes and all. Don’t miss out—RSVP at wintermusicmassive.eventbrite.com.

In the meantime, check out his “Cooked Food” video for a good laugh. It’s an oldie but goodie. He schools his band, “The Redd Strypes” on how to keep it sizzlin’ for the ladies.
